CHOOSING THE BEST STRAPPING FOR YOUR NEEDS

Did you know more than 50% of load damage is due to incorrect containment?

To avoid load damage, it is crucial to ensure that the strapping used is sufficient strength to secure a load and that the straps are sealed together correctly. Strapping is only as strong as its join, so if the seal at the join is weak, the strapping will break apart.

Strapping is available in many sizes and materials to suit different load types. The most common strapping types include metal or steel strapping, polyester strapping, polypropylene or poly strapping and poly woven strapping. Strapping is also referred to as 'banding' or 'lashing'. We manufacture a large range of strapping and tying products to suit all applications. As a leading Australian shipping and packing solution manufacturer, Omni Group also manufactures heavy-duty strapping for large and high volume loads.

WHY IS SECURE STRAPPING SO IMPORTANT?

Did you know more than 50% of load damage is due to incorrect containment?
To prevent damage, ensure that the strap is strong enough to secure the load and that you seal it properly. Strapping is only as strong as its join, so if the seal at the join is weak, it will break apart.

Strapping is available in different sizes and types to suit all loads. The most common types include metal or steel, polyester, poly, and poly woven. The industry also refers to this as banding or lashing.

STRAPPING MATERIALS AND TYPES

METAL

Steel Strapping is available in a range of widths and thicknesses to suit your needs. Ideal for heavy-duty applications, steel is a common and economical load containment method. We have all the tools you need to secure your loads. This includes cutters, threaders, tensioners, sealers, and dispensers.

Ribbon wound steel rolls comes in smaller coils than rope. This metal strapping is ideal for hand help applications as the roll’s weights are about 11kg compare rope wound steel that is about 45kg. Manufacturers produce steel rope wound on a continuous spool for high-volume usage. A trolley dispenser needs to move these rolls, each weighing approximately 45kgs.

PLASTIC

Polyester Strapping, also known as PET, is a cost-effective and safe alternative to steel for heavy-duty tasks. A strong and durable material that can handle heavy loads.

Industries such as shipping, and construction commonly use polyester strapping. A reliable option for securing items during transportation. Polyester is strong and used to secure heavy loads like bricks, timber, and tiles.

You can use poly strapping for both manual (hand) and machine application. We have a wide variety and all the accessories and dispensers needed to use it. Poly is short for polythene and people also refer to it as PP and plastic strapping.

Users apply hand grade poly manually and dispense it from a box for convenience and ease of use. This banding is available in different grades and thickness. Tighten the banding with a tensioner, then join it together with a seal clip and crimp to hold it in place and tight.

Machine grade poly is suitable for use on semi-automatic, auto, and fully automatic machines. Automated systems use a machine to wrap a band around a carton or product. The machine tightens the banding and seals it with heat or friction. This automates the entire process for fast and efficient operation.

WOVEN

Poly woven strapping is designed to protect your employees and customer from injuries while providing maximum load containment strength. This high tensile material is a popular alternative to steel as it has no sharp edges, and it does not spring back like steel. This woven polyester banding is rust proof and reusable.

Composite strapping is a strong, UV-coated fibre that is as strong as steel. It helps prevent injuries to employees and keeps loads secure. Sharp edges are present when cut, and they do not spring back like metal. This product is a safer and cost-effective alternative to steel.

Poly woven strapping is recommended for fragile items. It's soft and minimises damage to delicate loads. Woven polyester strap offers a robust bandwidth similar in strength to steel, but with safer and gentler handling characteristics.

Poly woven strapping is designed to be reusable. However, most other types of strapping should not be re-used unless specified by the manufacturer for safety and reliability concerns.

Composite strapping combines synthetic fibres and a pliable material to provide an alternative to steel banding. Its unique composition allows it to be strong and durable while remaining safe and easy to handle. Composite strapping is corrosion-resistant and can absorb shocks, making it ideal for securing loads exposed to outdoor elements.
Our collection of strapping tensioners and sealers cater to all types of strapping and applications, ensuring a secure fit for your loads during transit.

Strapping sealers (crimpers): These tools are essential for applying metal seals effectively. They have long handles for better leverage, making the crimping action secure and more user-friendly.
Strapping tensioners: Offering a selection of manual and pneumatic models, these tools are vital for tightening straps around goods securely. Available in various strap widths and types, tensioners provide stability for safe transportation. The automatic PET Sealless Strapping Tool tensions and heat welds the strap without the need of buckles or seals.

Manual tensioners suit straps from 12mm to 19mm wide. They are suitable for polypropylene, PET, composite, or woven strapping. Steel strapping tensioners are also available for 12mm to 32mm wide banding. Pneumatic tensioners use compressed air to attain superior grip and tension, making them ideal for heavy-duty requirements.

Strapping, also known as banding or bundling, is the process of applying a strap to items to combine, stabilise, hold, reinforce, or fasten them. It's commonly used in packaging and shipping to secure goods.

Different materials require different tools. Common tools include:
Sealless Polyester Strap Tool is a great all-in-one tool for quickly and effectively securing and tensions and heat welds the PET straps, eliminating the need of buckles or seals and manual tools.
Paper Banding is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastic strapping and is suitable for light loads. It's made from recyclable paper and has rolls that contain 200 meters of 20mm wide banding.
Strapping can be made from a variety of materials including:
Yes, strapping machines can be rented on a low-cost monthly term, avoiding the capital expense of purchasing your own machine.
Strapping elongation is how much a material can stretch when pulled and then go back to its original shape when released. This is important for loads that may shrink during transport because the straps can adjust to keep the load secure.

Considerations:
  • Required elongation recovery (critical for shrinking loads).
  • Maximum tension to apply without damaging the product.
  • Allowable retained tension.
Key points to note:
  • Polyester has approximately 70% elongation recovery.
  • Poly strap recovery ranges from 20 to 40% based on initial tension.
  • Humidity does not influence elongation recovery, but temperature can significantly affect plastic materials, particularly polypropylene.
Safety precautions for metal strap include:
  • Wearing protective gear, such as gloves and eyewear.
  • Ensuring the strap ends are not facing you when tensioning or cutting.
  • Using the appropriate tools correctly.
  • Keeping your work area clean to avoid trip hazards.

Thread / Pusher Type Metal Clips for Steel Strap:

  • Advantages: Fast application, made from heavy-duty steel for a secure fastening of strap ends.
  • Usage: The clips are placed over the strap ends and a sealer tool is used to clamp the metal seal around the banding.
Metal Strapping Clips for PET Strap:
  • Function: For use with 16mm wide polyester strapping in high-tension applications.
  • Features: These seals are threaded before tensioning, offering extra grip strength due to their serrated interior.
  • Application: A PET sealer tool is required to clamp the metal securely around the strapping.
Open Type Metal Clips for Poly Strap:
  • Material: Constructed from durable steel and designed for poly strapping.
  • Efficiency: These open-type seals provide a secure join for strap ends, maintaining tightness to prevent loosening or slipping.
  • How to Use: The strap is inserted into the opening of the seal before being sealed closed with a sealer tool.
For users who are looking for efficient and secure ways to bundle and transport their products, understanding the different types of strapping seals and their application is crucial. Whether you are dealing with heavy-duty steel straps or lightweight poly straps, choosing the right seal will ensure your load is secure during transit. /p>
